Maitland based registered training organisation, Hunter-V-Tec, has invested more than half a million dollars into new state of the art equipment to ensure it continues to offer the highest quality training to local apprentices.
The new equipment has been installed in the company’s Junction Street Telarah workshops and will be used in the training of engineering mechanical, fabrication and electrical apprentices. Hunter-V-Tec has 90 new apprentices starting this week in the engineering mechanical, fabrication and electrical trades fields.
The new equipment includes four Dashin Champion variable speed VS 2500 lathes worth more than $25,000 each as well as new inverter welders, 16 welding tables, two mills and eight, 18 speed geared head drills.
Recently appointed Hunter-V-Tec manager, Kevin Barnes, said Hunter-V-Tec is the only training facility in NSW with these particular welding tables. He said the new drills exceed NSW OHS standards for training facilities and are a great boost to Hunter-V-Tec’s training capabilities.
“We are installing new equipment and have rewritten and upgraded courses to ensure we continue to remain a leader in providing local apprentices and trainees with the right skills to be work ready and productive for local organisations,” Mr Barnes said.
“Our numbers in the engineering mechanical, fabrication and electrical trades fields have grown by 48% over last year and with expected demand in trade skills these numbers are likely to continue to grow throughout 2012,” he said.
He said Hunter-V-Tec’s apprenticeship numbers for this year were also up around 48% percent.
Hunter-V-Tec is one of two registered training organisations owned and operated by Hunter Valley Training Company (HVTC). The other, Skillswest, is in Sydney. Hunter-V-Tec trains around 300 apprentices and trainees a year, specialising in the provision of staff and training in the rapidly growing mining, engineering and resources sectors.
HVTC is the major sponsor of Skills on Show at The 2012 NAB Newcastle Regional Show from March 16-18. Some of this equipment will be on display at the Show.at the Show Some of this
