Hunter-V-Tec employee, April Moait, of Rutherford, has been named Trainee of the Year in this year’s Hunter Region Apprentice and Trainee Awards (HRATA).
Ms Moait took out the award at a gala awards function held at Club Panthers in Newcastle on June 24. She was announced as the winner of the Certificate II Business Trainee of the Year earlier in the month.
The 19 year old joined Hunter-V-Tec in March 2010 as a business administration trainee and is now the company’s payroll officer. She is currently enrolled in a Certificate III Business Administration and then hopes to complete her diploma.
Another Hunter-V-Tec trained apprentice was also a finalist for Apprentice of the Year at the awards. Jack Hoswell, 22, from Soldiers Point, took out the Green Keeping – Horticulture (Turf) Certificate III Apprentice of the Year. Mr Hoswell is now working full-time at the Soldiers Point Bowling Club.
Hunter-V-Tec manager Doug Ivins congratulated April and Jack on their awards and their career achievements.
“These awards are important because they encourage excellence,” Mr Ivins said.
“These awards also celebrate the contribution trainees make to organisations and the contribution traineeships make to ensuring that our region has skilled people for a successful future,” he said.
“April and Jack are proof that Hunter-V-Tec provides excellent training to equip young people to get a career and be work ready and productive.”
Maitland based Hunter-V-Tec is one of two registered training organisations owned by Hunter Valley Training Company, which is this year celebrating 30 years of training excellence.
The awards are conducted annually through the Hunter Regional Apprenticeship and Traineeship Advisory Committee [HRATA] and are designed to reward and promote vocational education and training excellence in the Hunter region. Winners from these awards often progress on to the State and National awards.
